An abstract based on an Azalea flower and buds from the garden. I used texture medium to bulk up the paint and applied with pallet knife.

Akaroa Tree

£135

Trying something new - visual dynamics and energy. This is a freer painting based on a photograph of a stunted tree on Banks Peninsular, South Island, NZ. Started with a fairly accurate painting of the tree then concentrated on the negative space. The tree has been stripped bare by the wind.

Celtic Maidens

Celtic Maidens is a painting inspired by a drawing by George Bain, of Celtic Art fame. This is the first time I have used metallic paints. The image is not quite symmetrical and I emphasised the two maidens with different skin tones.

St Andrew's lit with low winter sun. Took a lot of licence with the colour scheme as the building is much greyer!

Bagger Vance

£325

Tried to capture the likeness of a popular film star. Enjoyed this film and Will Smith's role as Bagger Vance, set in the American depression. I liked the clothes of this era.

I was happy with the result. The face is gentle and the light warm.

Girl in Crimson

Exercise in colour, shade, tone and tint.

Softer than than 'Girl in Emerald'. The lighter shading of the right cheek gives a rounder - younger look.
