dans votres visages £185 |
A bright abstract 'in your face' painting. This was designed in layout but the colours and patterns emerged during the painting. My most enjoyable abstract to date. |

Azalea £65 |
An abstract based on an Azalea flower and buds from the garden. I used texture medium to bulk up the paint and applied with pallet knife. |

Beautiful light and dark wood. Must handle! |

|
Pollen Burst £65 |
This started out as an experiment in texture. I liked the texture (it gave the impression of pollen bursting from flowers) but not the colours and so over-painted in copper.
The black square provides a focal point but the eye is constantly pulled back to the texture.. |

Call of St Andrew Commission |
This was painted as a commission from St Andrew's Church as a gift for Bill Houldsworth on his retirement as Head Master of St Andrew's School, Buckland Monachorum.
It is based on a mural in the school hall by the artist Richard Woollcombe.
This is the first full figure painting that I have done. I'm reasonably pleased with the outcome. |

Salmon £185 |
The only life like object in the walnut series. Lots of energy in this leaping salmon. |

|
Scorpion Commission |
This was the second of the Walnut set to be started but I put it aside for simpler forms.
I have called it Scorpion because of the spiky branch and the bulbous end. |
059 28/03/2009 Walnut 18x40x16 cm |
|
Shoe Commission |
I cut off the weaker white wood and shaped the block with a spoke shave; the resulting shape was shoe like. The ankle is formed from a branch stub. Where the branch meets the shoe there are grain markings that look like flexed leather.
I added some texture to the otherwise smooth and simple form.
Simplest form of the set. |
058 24/03/2009 Walnut 14x38x10 cm |
|
|
Walnut Sculpture Commission |
This piece developed over time. I applied texture to the base block. |
057 20/03/2009 Walnut 9x43x22 cm |
|
|
Curves Commission |
I used the whole log, utilising the light (cheesy) and dark (hard) wood. The curves are good from all directions.
Small amount of texture applied on one face. |
056 14/03/2009 Walnut 11x10x38 cm |
|
|
Three Branches Commission |
Only used the dark half of the log. The fingers are all different. The shadows are effective.
I used a chain saw to cut the initial form and then carved numerous curves but the sculpture didn't come to life until I put in the holes.
Aimed to make the walnut set very tactile. |
055 10/03/2009 Walnut 7x3x43 cm |

|
Akaroa Tree £65 |
Trying something new - visual dynamics and energy. This is a freer painting based on a photograph of a stunted tree on Banks Peninsular, South Island, NZ. Started with a fairly accurate painting of the tree then concentrated on the negative space. The tree has been stripped bare by the wind. |

Heather holding a rabbit. Painted from a photograph supplied by Gill. I have reworked the face so many times - too purple, too pail, to dark - aaaaaah! |
